The Minister of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), Augustine K. Ngafuan, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to enhancing the working conditions of civil servants nationwide.
Ngafuan made the commitment on Tuesday, June 10, when he served as a keynote speaker at the induction ceremony of officers-elect of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Workers Association (MOFAWA).
Those inducted to the MOFAWA’s leadership are Samuel S. Borbor, Sr. as president, Oddyessus G. Brown, vice president, and Madam Elvera M.F. Tarr, secretary general.
Mr. Ngafuan told the gathering about how President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has up-to-date, remained deeply appreciative of the dedication and service of government workers, and continues to prioritize their welfare.
“This year, the government made salary top-ups for more than 28,000 civil servants in the health, education, police and judiciary sectors,” Mr. Ngafuan said.
He added: “This is a clear demonstration of Pres. Boakai’s commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of civil servants.”
He meanwhile, boasted of how the working conditions at most entities have improved then it was before the Boakai-Koung administration came to power; a signal of better days ahead.
Ngafuan spoke of how the President is “impatient with delays,” “but remains determined to accelerate national development efforts, including improvements in road connectivity, electricity access, education and water supply.”
He called on Liberians to unite in developing the country, noting that “politicians win during election year, but the people are the ones to win every other year.”
Mr. Ngafuan, a former dean of the cabinet, urged the elected officials to serve as “double ambassadors,” by representing their colleagues with honor and acting as a bridge between the workforce and management.
He meanwhile commended the entire staff of the MFDP for their pivotal role in working with Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, to secure the country’s election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council; a milestone achievement for the nation.
Ngafuan then labeled Minister Nyanti as an “excellent addition,” to the cabinet of Pres. Boakai.
Madam Nyanti termed the election and induction of the ministry’s staff leadership as a demonstration of democracy.
She praised staff of the ministry for their commitment to duties to country.
