NEC Release Final Candidates’ List Declares Campaign Opened For Nimba Senatorial By-Election

The National Elections Commission (NEC) of Liberia has officially released the final list of qualified candidates for the upcoming senatorial by-election in Nimba County.

The election, scheduled following the passing of long-serving Senator Prince Y. Johnson, will see seven candidates vying for the seat.

The list includes Torboh  Fangalo, Mack Gblinwon, Edith Gongloe-Weh, George Gonpu, Samuel Kogar, Matenokay Tingban, and Garrison Yealue. Of the seven candidates, six are male, while one, Edith GongloeWeh, is the lone female contender in the race.

The candidates represent a mix of independent campaigns and affiliations with various political parties. Notably, four of the candidates are from distinct political parties, while others are running as independents.

In the earlier provisional listing, eight candidates were named, but one notable name, social media talk-show host Prophet Key, did not make it to the final list. The NEC’s decision to exclude him has raised questions, but his candidacy was disqualified.

The NEC also announced that the official political campaign period opens today March 31, 2025, and run through April 19, 2025, as candidates prepare for the crucial election in Nimba County. By: Ableejay Staff
