NEC Chairperson Attends EMBs Inaugural Meeting

The Chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Davidetta Browne Lansanah, has attended the Inaugural Meeting of Women Chairpersons of African Election Management Bodies (EMBs)in Accra, Ghana The meeting which run from 5 – 6 August 2024, was hosted by the Electoral Commission of Ghana and the Secretariat of the Association of African Electoral Authorities (AAEA).  NEC in a dispatch from Accra said the meeting was also in partnership with the UNDP Regional Service Centre for Africa, UN Electoral Assistance Division, the African Union Commission and the International IDEA. In the official invite extended Madam Browne Lansanah, the organizers disclosed that the Meeting of Women Chairpersons of African Election Management Bodies (EMBs) is an opportunity for women EMB leaders to reflect on establishing a continental network of senior electoral administrators aimed at fostering peer – support among women in election management in Africa. According to the dispatch, there are 8 women who are chairpersons of EMBs in Africa currently, including; Liberia, Ghana, Ethiopia, Cape Verde, Malawi, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. In a release issued Monday, 5 August 2024, by NEC – Liberia, Chairperson Browne Lansanah’s participation in the Ghana meeting has been sponsored by the UN Electoral Assistance Division.
