NASOWL Elects New President

The National Association of Social Workers of Liberia (NASOWAL) over the weekend elected Dr. J. Kerkula Foeday as new President of the association. The election took place at the 4th General Assembly of the association, held at the Destiny Entertainment Center on  Capitol Bye-Pass in Monrovia. President- elect Foeday stated that social workers are crucial for the transformation in any society and Liberia cannot be exception. He noted that Liberia is engulfed with so many social problems which need to be addressed with urgency, noting that gender- based violence, single motherhood, disadvantaged youth need to be tackled. He also indicated that his leadership will seek for legislation to advance social workers’ activities in Liberia. Dr.Foeday stressed that social work is a unique occupation, which must follow professional and international trend in the country rather than people doing sociology at universities. He asserted that the month of March is a social workers month across the world and this coming March in 2025, the association will create awareness about the function of social workers in Liberia. He maintained that the awareness will be carried out at the ground of the National Legislature and other communities across the nation. Dr.Foeday emphasized that there are more social works to do in Liberia and government and partners should help the association to educate, advocate and seek for justice for the ordinary people. Meanwhile, the Vice President- elected, Annie Menekee Flomo said the association will advocate to ensure social justice in the society.. Madam Flomo noted that the issues of rape, sexual abuse, gender- based violence will be prioritized by the association. She said social workers are vital for the transformation of the people and the society. Those are elected are Dr. J. Kerkula Foeday -President, Miss. Annie Menekee Flomo -Vice President, Mr. Varney V. Sheriff- Secretary General, Mr. Alieu Mohammed Kromah- Financial Secretary and Mr. Amadou L. Siryon- Treasurer.
