Ahead of World Fisheries Day, the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), has launched a major coastal clean-up campaign in West Point and Banjor beaches.
The exercise, according to a release, as part of its renewed commitment to maintain environmental sanitation in nine coastal communities.
The campaign was officially launched on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, with the participation of community members, fisheries stakeholders, and international partners.
NaFAA’s Acting Director General, J. Cyrus Saygbe, Sr., said the initiative forms part of a broader national effort to restore and sustain a healthy coastal environment.
Saygbe said keeping the beaches clean requires collective action.
He highlighted ongoing engagements with fisheries partners to strengthen the initiative.
“This requires a joint effort to keep all our beaches clean.”
Meanwhile, NaFAA has called on residents, including fishmongers, fishermen, and local business owners, to fully participate in maintaining cleanliness along the coastline to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all.
Several key fisheries partners, including the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Conservation International (CI), attended the ceremony.
They pledged their continued supports to promote clean and sustainable fisheries environments in the country.
The Liberia Artisanal Fishermen Association (LAFA) is also committed to work with the government through NaFAA to help ensure that all fishing communities remain clean and well-managed.
The coastal clean-up campaign is one of several activities leading up to World Fisheries Day.
This international observance highlights the importance of healthy ocean ecosystems and the sustainable management of fisheries resources.
