The Maryland Vocational Training Institute (MVTI) has hosted an orientation for students at the Pleebo City Hall.
The event brought together educational stakeholders, including Pleebo City Mayor, Larry G. Geekor, MVTI faculty, and local government officials.
Deputy Director for Training and Manpower, Gregory Mieh, disclosed that 303 students have registered for five programs: General Mechanics, Construction, Agriculture, Electricity, and Air Conditioning & Refrigeration.
He emphasized that the institute focuses on 80% practical training to equip students with technical skills and hands-on experience.
Established by the National Legislature on September 27, 2021, MVTI aims to empower junior and high school graduates to meet labor market demands and become self-reliant entrepreneurs.
The institute has received sponsorship from government officials, including: Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon (170 students),Hon. Austin B. Taylor (30 students)and Senator J. Glebo Brown (60 students)
Meanwhile, students at MVTI are breathing a sigh of relief after lawmakers covered their tuition fees. The first batch to enroll since the institute’s establishment said the support will help them focus on their studies without financial stress.
“We’re grateful for the lawmakers’ kindness,” said one student. “This will let us concentrate on learning and achieving our goals.”
The gesture is expected to boost enrollment and empower more young people in Maryland County with vocational skills.
