MPW Concludes Second Gov’t Open House Initiative

The Ministry of Public Works (MPW) has concluded the second edition of governments open house initiative, highlighting significant progress made so far as it relates to roads and infrastructure development across the country.

The open government initiative is a global initiative, with the aims to promote transparency, accountability and civic participation.

It is also intended to keep the public informed about key government projects and policies.

At the program recently in Monrovia, Public Works Minister, Roland L. Giddings, said the ministry has nothing to hide, as such, remaining open and committed in performing their responsibilities as it relates to roads and infrastructure development.

Giddings said the ministry is also collaborating with donor partners, other ministries and agencies, as well as other local actors to take the lead in developing and addressing the country’s road network.

He added: “It will be a great development in connecting the village to the city center; something that government is gradually working to address.”

“Public Works is a part of the government Open House Initiative, and therefore we subscribe to transparency and accountability,” he said.

According to Giddings, the ministry will continue to provide the kind of openness that is required in the country’s governance process.

He said what they are doing at the ministry supposed to enhanced the work of the sector, and they are proud to be heading such a developmental drive, assuring the public that the outcome of their work is visible, because of the leadership they are providing at the institution.

“Today we are going to remain open, and I can assure you that we will always be open, working with donor partners and other ministries and agencies as we implement what is required to improve the road network of the country,” he said.

Giving an update on ongoing projects, challenges and next steps, representatives from Special Project Implementation Unit (SPIT), Zoning and Land Use Planning, ESAFE, Liberian-Swedish Access Drive (LISA) and Overhead-pass (Bridge), said significant progress made so far in the country development drive.

On the overhead-pass bridge, they said all is now set for the project to commence, beginning an official launch in September, this year.

Major worked has been done on the 45km Robert International Airport road, which is a 36 months project, and it is expected to end in April, 2027.
