Harper City Mayor Abraham Jackson was honored Monday by the Maryland Progress Appreciation Network for what the group called his “outstanding performance, dedicated leadership, and commitment to the growth and development of Harper City.”
The recognition was presented during a brief ceremony at the mayor’s office. Chairperson Mark Constance and Secretary General Newton Jah presented Jackson with a certificate of appreciation on behalf of the organization.
Established on January 13, 2026, the Maryland Progress Appreciation Network is a coalition of professionals from diverse backgrounds focused on promoting accountability and monitoring local government performance in the county.
According to the group, Harper has seen “tremendous progress” under Jackson’s leadership as head of the Harper City Corporation. They cited maintenance of city ordinances, cleanliness, and the opening of major drainages across the city as key developments that prompted the recognition.
The certificate, signed by Secretary General Newton Jah and approved by Chairperson Mark Constance, praised the mayor for his “unwavering commitment to the advancement of Harper and the well-being of its citizens.” Speaking at the presentation, Constance said the award was meant to encourage continued development and community-centered leadership.
“We are proud to recognize Mayor Abraham Jackson for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the development of Harper City,” Constance said. “Under his administration, the city continues to witness positive progress and community engagement. This certificate is a symbol of our appreciation for his hard work, dedication and service to the people of Harper.”
He added that the group will keep supporting initiatives that promote peace, development, and unity in Maryland County. Receiving the award, Mayor Jackson thanked the organization and pledged to continue serving Harper with “dedication, transparency and unity.”
“I am deeply honored and grateful to you guys, the Maryland Progress Appreciation Network for this recognition,” Jackson said. “This appreciation is not only for me, but for my entire workforce, the cleaners and the people of Harper City who continue to support the vision of development and progress. My administration remains committed to working tirelessly to improve the city and create better opportunities for our citizens.”
Mayor Jackson was appointed by President Joseph Boakai two years ago, replacing former Acting Mayor Melchizedek Toee, who had been appointed by former President George Weah.
