The Ministry of Transport in collaboration with the Road Safety Secretariat over the weekend launched a road safety material hand-held stop paddle to be distributed to over 100 schools in Montserrado County.
Speaking at the launching ceremony held at the Transport Ministry in Monrovia, Mr. Rudolph G. Natt, Deputy Minister for Land and Rail, said the purpose of the hand -held stop sign is to provide a clear and unambiguous sign to drivers, instructing them to stop or proceed cautiously.
He said the distribution of road safety material which includes handheld stop paddle to over 100 schools in Montserrado County is aligns with the transport ministry mandate to enhance road safety and reduce accidents.
According to him, the process is aimed to help enhance and guild the movement of students and predestinates in schools’ zone there by improving their safety.
He said the Road Safety Secretariat is an entity of the Liberian government that enhances road safety through innovative policies, effective enforcement, and community engagement.
“We strive to reduce road traffic accidents and fatalities by promoting responsible behavior among road users and ensuring the development of safer infrastructure,” he said.
He told the gathering that hand-held stop paddle sign is the sign that enables a trained flagg to deliver clear, unambiguous instructions to drivers approaching construction work or school zones.
