MoT Releases New Taxi, Bus Fares Nationwide

By Godgift Harris

Authorities at the Ministry of Transport (MoT) has officially released a nationwide list of approved inter-county taxi and bus fares, ending years of “arbitrary charges” often imposed by commercial drivers.

Announced on Thursday, October 9, 2025, the new fare structure forms part of government’s broader effort to regulate transportation costs, ensure uniform pricing, and protect commuters from exploitation amid growing economic pressures.

According to MoT, the approved fares replace inconsistent charges previously set by drivers, and transport unions and now establish clear, standardized rates for major routes connecting Monrovia to the 15 county capitals.

At the Ministry of Information regular press briefing, on Tuesday, October 7, Transport Minister Sheriff Tyler, said the decision reflects President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s commitment to ease the financial burden on ordinary Liberians through policy reforms that promote fairness and stability.

He warned that anyone caught violating these approved fares will face the full weight of the law.
