MOT, LNP Launch Nationwide Vehicle Inspection By Amos Harris

The Ministry of Transport (MOT), in partnership with the Liberia National Police (LNP), will officially resume its nationwide motor vehicle inspection campaign on Monday, April 7, 2025, beginning in Monrovia and surrounding areas.

The launch ceremony held Friday, April 4, at the Ministry of Transport in Monrovia, brought together senior officials from both the MOT and the LNP.

The campaign is aimed at ensuring that all vehicles operating across the country meet legal roadworthiness standards.

Speaking at the event, Transport Minister Sirleaf Ralph Tyler emphasized the importance of professionalism, respect and accountability among inspectors and police officers assigned to carry out the inspections.

“We are all Liberians and we must treat each other with dignity,” Minister Tyler said,  “No one is above the law.”

Our duty is to ensure that every road user complies with the rules and regulations that govern vehicle operations in Liberia.”

Minister Tyler instructed inspectors and their supervisors to report any issues beyond their control to the appropriate authorities within the Ministry.

He also assured the public that the inspection process would be transparent and orderly, operating on a “first come, first served” basis.

He warned that the exercise is not meant to intimidate or target individuals, but rather to promote safety on the roads.

“We are here to do the right thing, we respect every Liberian, regardless of their status in society,” he noted.

The Minister further reminded all vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles are equipped with essential safety items such as fire extinguishers, describing it as a mandatory requirement for passing the inspection.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Patrick Smith, Director for Motor Pool at the Liberia National Police, reaffirmed the LNP’s support for the campaign and urged officers to act with professionalism.

“As police officers, we are not just here to enforce the law we are here to help and serve,” Smith said.

“Every officer involved in this exercise must engage citizens respectfully and report any violations through the proper channels.”

The inspection exercise will begin in Montserrado County and gradually expand to other counties across the country in the coming weeks.
