Authorities at the Ministry of Public Works (MoPWs) have acquired six acres of land in River Gee County.

The Ministry will use the land to establish a modern maintenance center in the county.

The process is one of major boosts to infrastructural development.

The center, once completed, will serve as a hub for storing and deploying essential earth moving machines aimed at improving road construction and maintenance in the county and surrounding regions.

The announcement was made following a meeting between Assistant Minister for Community Services, Albert Toukolon, and local authorities headed by County Superintendent, Mike T. Swengbe.

The engagement focused on strengthening collaboration to ensure the successful construction and operation of the facility, which is expected to significantly support road projects, especially those leading to major market areas.

The land acquisition was finalized through the Liberia Land Authority (LLA) under the supervision of Land Administrator, George Q. Gbeti.

Shortly after the Agreement, surveyors from the River Gee County Land Authority were dispatched to the designated location along the Fish Town–Kanweaken highway, to begin immediate preliminary surveys.

In an exclusive interview, Toukolon expressed optimism about the timely commencement of construction, and the arrival of the much-needed yellow machines.

While he did not disclose specific timelines, he said the transformative benefits the equipment will bring would be enormous.

The machinery will not only strengthen road construction and maintenance efforts, but also support agriculture by providing additional mechanized assistance to farmers, thereby complementing the work of the Ministry of Agriculture and boosting productivity across the county.

Superintendent Swengbe praised the initiative, which he described as a critical milestone to improve connectivity in the county, and stimulate economic growth.
