The Ministry of Justice (MoJ), through the Bureau of Corrections and Rehabilitation (BCR), on November 25, 2025, turned over narcotics valued at L$1,485,591 (US$7,818.90) to the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA).
The substances were seized from inmates, visitors, and some Corrections officers.
Those linked to the drugs have since been turned over to MoJ for prosecution, and BCR officers who were involved were reportedly dismissed.
According to a release, the drugs were presented to LDEA Deputy OIC for Administration, Ernest Tarpeh.
During the presentation, the release said, BCR team noted that the turnover was necessary as LDEA is the statutory authority responsible for drug matters.
Upon receipt, Tarpeh welcomed the team and immediately ordered testing of the substances at the Agency laboratory in the presence of UNODC partners.
The results confirmed the presence of
Marijuana: 325 wraps /366 grams; tramadol: 17 strips /five pills; Kush: 323 grams; cocaine: 24.9 grams and heroin 7.9 grams.
Meanwhile, the Agency said it is committed to work with other security agencies to make sure that all suspects linked to the reported crimes are duly prosecuted.
