The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), and the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), have launched the Tree Crops Extension Project ll.
The launch of the project, is to conduct the mid-term review of the Building Climate Resilience Project (BCRP). At the launch on Monday, February 16, 2026, in Monrovia, Agriculture Minister, J. Alexander Nuetah reaffirmed government’s commitment to its partnership with IFAD. Nuetah highlighted achievements of the IFAD TCEP project, and outlined new priorities to strengthen agricultural production, rural infrastructure, and value addition nationwide.
He commended IFAD for its continued support to Liberia’s agricultural transformation, and acknowledged the leadership of IFAD Country Director, Pascaline Barankeba, for her exceptional role in strengthening cooperation, and ensuring impactful investments in the agricultural sector. “We can proudly say that IFAD has been working well in Liberia, and the results we are seeing demonstrate the strength of partnership and shared commitment to transform our agriculture sector.” Nuetah said, Liberia for the first time, pledged financial contributions to IFAD’s 13th Replenishment (IFAD13), committing US$100,000 to the fund.
He further that, 50 percent of the pledged amount has already been paid, with the remaining expected before the end of this year. “For the first time, Liberia pledged to contribute to IFAD, and we remain committed to fulfilling that obligation, because partnership must also come with ownership.” Nuetah said, Liberia’s contribution has strengthened its partnership with IFAD, mobilized more than US$52 million for agricultural development initiatives.
IFAD Country Director Pascaline Barankeba, described the mission as critical.
Madam Barankeba, noted that progress in strengthening implementation systems and making strategic decisions to improve the lives of farmers and rural communities throughout Liberia have already been made. “This mission is crucial, because it allows us to reflect honestly on what has been achieved, identify gaps, and ensure that our investments deliver sustainable results.”
Madam Barankeba said, while IFAD remains committed to support Liberia’s agricultural transformation, the sustainability of results depends on strong national ownership and performance at all levels of implementation.
The mission brings together IFAD representatives, implementing partners, Project Implementation Unit (PIU) staff, and MoA officials.
The partners assessed progress and defined strategic priorities for future interventions.
