Authorities at the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) and farmers’ organizations, have conducted a day-long workshop on the use of generating (AI) Artificial Intelligence in agricultural advisories.
The workshop was conducted with technical support from the International Food Policies Research Institute (IFPRI), and the Liberian Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (LIFAAS).
The opening of the one-day study on October 1,2025, was hosted in the Ministry conference room in Oldest Congo Town.
Dr. Moses Zinnah of LIFAAS said, the workshop intends to expose farmers to the use of AI generation in farming methodology.
Dr. Zinnah said the use of AI generation in agriculture extension will also boost farmers’ capacity, and enhance the work of agriculture extension officers.
“This workshop will expose extension officers to processes, and modules in generating AI in agricultural advisories by working closely with farmers,” he said.
Zinnah noted that with the use of AI generated modules in farming, farmers will get the desired benefits from their produce.
He said the special coded agriculture answers will be generated to respond to questions and inquiries from farmers.
Dr. Zinnah: “Considering the farmers to extension officer ratio, the program will serve as a necessity to implement the use of AI generative in agriculture.”
“It is believed that there is one extension officer to about 40,000 farmers,” Dr. Zinnah said, noting: “Digitalization is the future of human interaction.”
Lead facilitator of the workshop, Eliot-Jones Garcia said, the importance of introducing AI generated modules in agriculture will prepare farmers to easily engage emerging farming techniques.
Mr. Garcia said AI contents are part of the 21st century education modules, and agriculturists cannot afford to miss out.
He recalled how the module has been taught, and presented in countries like Malawi, Kenya and Nigeria, noting that farmers cannot be left out.
Garcia expressed optimism that once the AI generated agricultural advisories are implemented, Liberian farmers will appreciate the system, and extension officers will enhance engagements with farmers for greater benefits in the agricultural sector.
He addressed Key topics, including Diagnosis- Understanding the problem, Decision-making; discussion to action; Synthesis-Key insights and LLM implications.
Participants expressed gratitude to the MoA and LIFAAS, said the study on the use of AI generative in agriculture advisories was timely. They promised to engage with the system when ready for implementation in the country.
Mr. Garcia is a senior research analyst with the Natural Resources and Resilience Unit at International Food Policies Research Institution (IFPRC) in Washington DC, the United States of America.
