Hundreds of outraged residents from Boinsein District, Bong County, have formally petitioned their representative, Prince K. Koinah.
The residents want Koinah to put an immediate halt to the Turkish mining giant, MNG-Gold from resuming operations in the district.
The petition, presented during a mass gathering on Monday, December 1, 2025, outlined a long list of grievances against the company.
The list contained environmental degradation, road destruction, and the failure to fulfill social and economic promises made during its previous operations.
“Our district has suffered immensely. Our water sources were contaminated; our farmlands destroyed, and our roads left in disrepair.
We are not against investment, but we refused to be exploited. MNG-Gold must be held accountable before returning to operate,” said one community leader at the meeting.
Residents warned that any attempt by the company to restart operations without addressing these issues, would meet an organized resistance.
The protest reflects growing local frustration over “decades of corporate negligence and broken promises.”
Rep. Koinah praised the residents for their “peaceful, yet firm action.”
He pledged to escalate the matter to the Legislature, and relevant government agencies.
He said while foreign investment is vital for development, it should never compromise the health, safety, and livelihoods of local communities.
The Boinsein petition highlighted broader concerns over mining operations; raising urgent questions about regulatory oversight and corporate accountability.
As MNG-Gold prepares to return, residents are making it clear, any operations without justice and restitution, will face strong opposition.
