The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) has launched a nationwide mining tour and enforcement campaign to strengthen transparency, accountability, and responsible mining activities.
The initiative forms part of the government’s renewed commitment to protect the mineral resources while ensuring that mining operations contribute meaningfully to national development.
While in Bopolu City, Lands, Mines and Energy Minister, R. Matenokay Tingban, described the tour as a major step to restore order and confidence in the mining sector.
Tingban said, government remains determined to ensure that all mining activities are conducted in accordance with the minerals and mining law.
He observed that illegal mining continues to pose challenges to the economic growth by denying the government the needed revenue, discouraging legitimate investment, and damaging the environment in several mining communities.
The tour is part of government’s engagement strategy for which the Ministry has intensified awareness and sensitization activities.
The campaign is expected to create a more organized, transparent, and environmentally responsible mining sector nationwide.
Tingban described the nationwide exercise as a strong signal that the government is serious about creating a level playing field for legitimate investors while discouraging unlawful activities within the sector.
He noted that responsible mining remains essential to Liberia’s long-term economic growth, environmental protection, and job creation.
