Medina A. Wesseh Takes Over UMU

The Board of Directors of the United Methodist University (UMU), through its Chairman, Bishop Samuel J. Quire, Jr., on Friday, November 28, 2025, named Counselor Medina A. Wesseh (Mrs.), as head of the Interim Management Team of the University.

According to a release, Cllr. Wesseh, was unanimously endorsed by her fellow board members to lead the UMU Management Team from December 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026.

Prior to naming her, Cllr. Wesseh was a member of the board.

She is expected to work with the university vice presidents, and other senior staff members. Her leadership starts on December 1, 2025.

Bishop Quire also named Reverend Anthony G. Dioh, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Reverend George K. Weagba, Vice President for Administration, the Comptroller, Julius D. Innis, and the Chancellor for the Liberia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church (LAC/UMC), Counselor Samuel T. Zonoe, as a member of the team.

“Please ensure the viability of the UMU in the academic community,” Quire told Wesseh and her team.

Cllr. Wesseh comes into the leadership role following the death of the UMU President, Dr. Emmanuel F. Bailey, on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, while on official duty. Dr. Bailey took over the university for the third time as its president on March 1, 2025.

Cllr. Wesseh is a highly respected Liberian lawyer, diplomat, and public servant.

She has made significant contributions to her country, particularly in peace, regional integration, and development.

Her impressive career, includes serving as the Secretary-General of the Mano River Union, where she led initiatives to promote peace and cooperation among member states.

She is an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Monrovia.

Meanwhile, the UMU Board of Directors also constituted a search team for the university president position.

The team is led by Dr. Tolbert Nyenswah, Vice Chairman of the UMU Board of Directors, and Lay Leader of the LAC/UMC.
