Mark Jabateh Says His ‘Heart Is Broken’

By Domingo Dargbeh

Mark B. Jabateh, Assistant Minister Destinate for Peace Building at the Ministry of Local Government, has expressed deep emotional distress regarding the recent establishment of a Peacebuilding Department, which he claims, was created with the intent to get him out of government.

Jabateh’s remarks have raised concerns among constituents in Gbarpolu, Bomi, and Grand Cape Mount counties, whose inhabitants have reportedly rallied for him in solidarity.

“I’m in tears, because my heart is broken. I have become a laughing stock,” Jabateh cried.

He said, the profound impact this development has had not only on him personally, but also on the communities he represents.

Jabateh specifically accused the Minister of Internal Affairs, Francis Nyumalin of “orchestrating the formation of the department to sideline his contributions to peace initiatives.”

The formation of the Peacebuilding Department comes amidst ongoing discussions about how best to address the various social and political challenges, particularly in areas that have historically been affected by conflict.

However, Jabateh’s assertion that the “initiative is a calculated move against me. It has sparked a debate about the motivations behind such governmental changes.”

“My people are in tears like me,” Jabateh continued.

He said, the repercussions of this political maneuver extend beyond himself to the very communities that rely on stable leadership for their progress and well-being.

Jabateh was appointed as Assistant Minister for Peace Building at the Ministry of Local Government signal an important step to address long-standing issues, yet if perceived as a tool for political retribution, it risks further alienating key stakeholders.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how both Jabateh and Nyumalin will navigate the political landscape, and whether Jabateh’s claims will lead to broader discussions about accountability and transparency in governance.
