The House Committee on Foreign Affairs has lauded President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for diplomatically engaging the ongoing efforts to maintain peace and stability within the Mano River Basin.

The Committee is chaired by Nimba County Electoral District #3 Representative, Nehker E. Gaye, who described Pres. Boakai’s participation in the three-nation Summit as timely, strategic, and in the best interest of Liberia and the sub-region.

The Committee said, Liberia’s continued commitment to diplomacy reinforces its longstanding role as a promoter of peace and regional cooperation within West Africa.

It also urged all parties to remain committed to the outcomes of the summit and continue to prioritize dialogue over conflict, noting that sustained peace in the Mano River Basin is critical to economic growth, regional integration, and the well-being of citizens.

The commendation followed a high-level meeting, which involved the presidents of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.

The historic event was held in Conakry where the trio addressed rising tensions and border-related concerns among the three neighboring states.

The summit came amid heightened concerns following reports of troop deployments by Guinea along its border with Liberia, raising fears of potential escalation.

However, the engagement among the three leaders resulted in a unified stance for peace.

In a joint statement issued after the meeting and broadcast on Guinean state television, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to resolve all border-related issues through dialogue and established diplomatic mechanisms.

They further pledged to maintain peace and stability in the Mano River region, and avoid any actions that could escalate tensions.
