The Director General of the Liberia Standards Authority (LiSA), Stephen Y. Mamba, has reaffirmed the agency’s unwavering commitment to driving national development through quality infrastructure and international standardization, thus positioning the country to compete on the global stage.
Mamba made the disclosure on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing in Monrovia.
He hailed the administration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for its progressive development agenda.
Mamba also heaped praises on Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah, for his “transformative leadership,” stating: “It has redefined the delivery of public services across the country.”
“This press engagement marks a new chapter in LiSA’s mission to bring our institution and services closer to the people,” Mamba told journalists.
He added: “It has reinforced our commitment to support the national agenda under the leadership of Pres. Boakai through the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.”
Mr. Mamba then commended various stakeholders for their role in the passage and operationalization of the Liberia Standards Act, which was passed in 2022, and came into full effect in 2024.
He named the Liberia Chamber of Commerce, the Liberia Business Association, the Manufacturers Association of Liberia, and the National Consumer Association of Liberia for their pivotal contributions.
Mamba also acknowledged institutional support from the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) and the Technical Working Group on Codex and Food Safety, all of whom, he said, have helped to advance LiSA’s mission.
Mamba said economic growth in the country is deeply tied to meeting international benchmarks, particularly those governing quality, safety and environmental protection.
“To compete globally, we must ensure our products and services meet stringent international standards,” he told the gathering, noting: “That’s the only way to open doors to regional and global markets.”
Established under the Liberia Standards Act, LiSA now serves as the official National Standards Body, tasked with providing critical services in standardization, metrology, testing, inspection, certification and conformity assessment.
The Authority’s broad mandate includes, strengthening national quality infrastructure to stimulate trade and productivity.
It is to support Liberian industries and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs); promote sustainable production, consumer protection, and environmental safety; facilitate training and public awareness on global standards and regulatory practice; represent Liberia at international bodies, including ISO, Codex Alimentarius, and ARSO.
