The Maryland County Health Team has officially launched the nationwide Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign.
The launch was joined by partner organizations in the multi-county effort to protect girls (nine-18) from cervical cancer. The week-long rollout began on November 17, 2025, with county health workers, community health assistants, and staff mobilized to deliver the HPV vaccine at schools, health facilities and outreach sites.
Its prioritized girls in the campaign target age cohorts as set out by the MoH.
Maryland County Health Team, was specifically commended for its planning and community engagement ahead of the campaign.
The campaign is a multi-age cohort vaccination drive that targets adolescent girls with a single dose of HPV vaccine.
The national effort is part of broader strategy to reduce cervical cancer; a largely vaccine-preventable disease caused predominantly by persistent infection with high-risk HPV types.
Global health organizations said HPV vaccination as a cornerstone of cervical cancer elimination efforts.
County health teams will use fixed sites health facilities and school-based sessions, and outreach teams to reach girls, who are out of school or live in remote communities. Community health volunteers and the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI)-trained vaccinators will support cold chain management, registration and follow-up during the five-day campaign window.
Local leaders and health promoters are also running information sessions to address questions and reduce vaccine hesitancy.
