LRA Kicks Off 6-Month National VAT Awareness

The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), has officially kicked off a nationwide Value Added Tax (VAT) Awareness Campaign.

The development followed its launch in February at the LRA Headquarters in Monrovia.

The campaign, according to a rerlease, begins in Montserrado County, and will extend to all 15 counties.

This six-month initiative is designed to help business owners and taxpayers clearly understand VAT, prepare with confidence, and comply with ease ahead of its full implementation.

VAT, a modern tax applied to goods and services, is not only about meeting obligations, but also about creating a fair, transparent, and efficient system that supports business growth and national development.

At the official launch of the campaign late February, LRA Commissioner General, James Dorbor Jallah, highlighted the importance of early preparation and taxpayer engagement.

Jallah noted that the awareness campaign is about bringing government closer to the people.
“VAT is not just a new tax system; it is a shared responsibility for national development. We want every business owner to understand it, prepare for it, and succeed under it. This awareness campaign is about ensuring that no taxpayer is left behind.

As part of the current rollout, dedicated VAT teams are already engaging directly with businesses and citizens in communities, markets, commercial centers, and government institutions across Monrovia.

These interactions are focused on simplifying VAT, answering questions, and providing practical guidance to help taxpayers understand what is required and how to prepare.

Through this campaign, the LRA is ensuring that no taxpayer is left behind by creating opportunities for business owners to learn how VAT works in simple and practical terms, understand their responsibilities, and take early steps to avoid challenges when implementation begins.

Beyond compliance, VAT represents an important investment in Liberia’s future.

Revenue generated will support the delivery of better public services, including improved roads, stronger healthcare systems, quality education, and other essential national priorities that benefit all citizens.

Following activities in Montserrado, the awareness campaign will expand nationwide through community engagements, media outreach, and targeted training sessions for businesses.

The LRA encourages all business owners and stakeholders to actively participate, ask questions, and take advantage of this opportunity to prepare.

“Understanding VAT today means protecting your business tomorrow and contributing to a stronger Liberia for all.”
