Construction works at the new and largely structured police station project in Louisiana Township, Montserrado County District #1 started early this year. The move to undertake the project was taken by district Representative as a result of a citizens’ consensus-based approach to alleviate the long standing security absence affecting the people. Residents of the township reached a unanimous decision to fight the rising waves of crimes in the area in order to strengthen the rule of law and democracy.
The development of the building process had the momentum following the ground-breaking ceremony but later reversed on a slow pace with no prevailing knowledge to the public on what is lacking behind.
The project is an initiative of the Office of Montserrado County District #1 Representative Rugie Yatu Barry after she held a meeting with her constituents in the township and asked them to pinpoint one of the cardinal development priorities on the agenda.
As the situation stands, few of the people concerned who spoke to the In Profile Daily said the project was launched but did not realize a timeframe and there is no available public information relative to a specific time to complete the building.
Henry Kpanah Roberts, Director of Security of the Integrity Kapao Secure Liberia is one of several others who believed that the construction of the police station is timely, said it will reduce violence and the criminal rate in communities of Louisiana.
“A young man recently assaulted a lady in Palm City community and he challenged her ever calling on the police for his arrest. She chartered a bike to travel to Samuka Town for arresting officers but upon her return to Louisiana the fellow had already escaped across the St. Paul River,” he said.
For his part, Roberts’ speculation about the awkward moment of the construction works at the building is based on the raining season. Madam Agnes Brown the Chairlady of Palm City also said they embraced the construction of the police station to have security presence in the township because they are living in one of the frightened communities with no bridge and electricity. However, they are in a state of uncertainty due to the lack of update on the project break-in-proceedings.
She also noted that the lack of bridge to ably connect the people of the community to the rest of the township has also denied them access to public facilities a condition that poses insecurity. Efforts made to contact the Office of the Commissioner to respond to the break-in of constructions work at the station’s project proved futile.
It can be recalled that Representative Barry broke ground for the construction of a Police Station so as to augment efforts of the Liberia National Police (LNP) to strengthen the fight against crimes and violence within the township of Louisiana, District #1 lower Montserrado County.
The lawmaker along with local authorities on January 28, 2025 earmarked the construction of the modern police station project in the Township of Louisiana.
She assured the people of Louisiana her commitment that the project will be fully implemented for their safety and security moving Liberia forward.
Appreciating the development drive during the occasion attended at the Louisiana Town Hall the Deputy Inspector General of Police for Administration (DIGP) William K. Mulbah thanked Rep. Barry for being nationalistic to improve security in the district.
He assured residents of LNP’s fullest support equip the facility upon completion with man-power and logistics to curb criminal activities to protect lives and properties.
It is the first of its kind for the people of Louisiana to experience the gigantic layout foundation perceived to be the construction of a multi-purpose modern police facility in the locality since the existence of the township. The lack of police presence in Louisiana Township is a growing concern amongst residents of the area hoping to see the speedy development of the station.
