LNP Sends ‘Protestors’ To Court

The Liberia National Police (LNP) says it has sent to court several individuals, who were arrested for violently demonstrating on the campuses of the University of Liberia (UL).

One of the students’ protests, according to the LNP, occurred on the UL main campus on Monday, April 28, 2025.

Those arrested in the aftermath of the protests have been sent to court for prosecution.

The protests, LNP sys, caused major disruptions of normal activities on campus, including blocking the main street along the Capital By-Pass and damaging a clearly marked police vehicle with license plate #RL-307.

“Upon arrival at the scene to restore order, the LNP came under attack as some students threw stones and other deadly objects, including glass bottles, further escalating the violence,” the release said.

The individuals arrested and sent to court are, Daniel S. Deema, Kalifa Kanneh, Archi Sougha, Frank D. Jackson, Christopher Dugbe, Isaac William and Musa A. Kermokai.

Following an investigation, the alleged demonstrators were charged with multiple offenses, including criminal conspiracy, recklessly endangering the lives of others, rioting and criminal mischief.

Other charges include, failure to disperse, disorderly conduct, obstructing highway and other public passages.

These charges violate various provisions of the Revised Penal Law of the country, specifically Chapter 10, Section 10.4; Chapter 14, Subchapter B, Section 14.23; Chapter 15, Subchapter A, Section 15.5; Chapter 17, Sections 17.1, 17.3 and 17.7.

The charged individuals have been forwarded to court for prosecution, while efforts are ongoing to identify additional suspects, who will face charges once identified.

The LNP says it remains dedicated to maintaining peace and order.

Meanwhile, the public is encouraged to respect the rule of law and address grievances through peaceful dialogue.
