The Liberia National Police (LNP), in collaboration with the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), has launched a two-day training workshop on Security Media Relations aimed at enhancing cooperation and understanding between law enforcement officers and media practitioners across the country. The workshop, being held under the theme, “Strengthening Police-Media Partnership: Understanding Police Administration for Responsible Public Safety Reporting and National Security,”.The training brings together police officers, journalists, and communication professionals to discuss ways of improving collaboration in the interest of public safety and national security. The initiative seeks to provide participants with a deeper understanding of police administration, security operations, and the role of the media in ensuring accurate, balanced, and responsible reporting on security-related matters. However, some journalists attending the program expressed skepticism about the long-term impact of the training, arguing that relations between the media and security institutions have historically faced challenges. According to several participants, building a truly common understanding between both institutions may remain difficult, as each side often believes it better understands its own responsibilities and professional obligations. Despite these concerns, organizers emphasized that the training is intended to bridge existing gaps, improve communication, and foster mutual respect between the police and the media. Speaking during the opening session, officials highlighted the importance of a strong and constructive relationship between law enforcement agencies and journalists.  They noted that such cooperation is essential for maintaining public trust, promoting transparency, and supporting national security efforts. The officials further stressed that responsible journalism and effective police communication play critical roles in ensuring that citizens receive timely, factual, and reliable information, particularly during emergencies and other public safety incidents. The training program includes presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions designed to strengthen communication channels between the police and media professionals. Participants are also examining common challenges encountered in reporting security-related issues and exploring practical solutions to improve information sharing. Organizers believe the workshop will equip participants with valuable knowledge and skills that can contribute to more professional public safety reporting while promoting stronger institutional collaboration. The two-day event, participants are expected to develop a better understanding of their respective roles and responsibilities, paving the way for improved cooperation between the Liberia National Police and the Press Union of Liberia in support of national development, peace and security.
