LNP Official On Mainstreaming Gender In WECC By Julius Konton

Assistant Police Commissioner and Chief of Gender Affairs Section of the Liberia National Police (LNP), has stressed the need for mainstream gender-balanced in the establishment of War and Economic Crimes Court (WECC) as well as the Anti-corruption Court in the country. 

Commissioner Teta Wilson spoke at the just ended one-day gender equality dialogue in Monrovia.

She described women inclusion in the process as essential, especially so when they are the most victims of the crimes committed during the country’s 14 long years civil war.

“There is a need for women full participation into the process and the need for gender mainstreaming in such exercise cannot be overemphasized,” Comm. Wilson added.

According to her, women’s inclusion will be a help to the process, “because, through women full involvement, justice will be served, since it the center for genuine reconciliation.

The establishment of the court will compliment truth telling, helping the nation healed, while ensuring that those responsible for the crisis will face the consequences for their action. “They will not to be rewarded politically.”

She continues: “When people are made to account for their actions, it will serve as a warning to would be crime violators.”

Comm. Wilson meanwhile calls for genuine healing and reconciliation, which she said, are the cornerstone to the entire process. 

She then reaffirmed the LNP commitment to providing professional and quality service across the country to make the country crime-free.
