LNP Clarifies Kowo’s Arrest

The Liberia National Police (LNP) has clarified that the apprehension of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Chairman, Janga A. Kowo, was based on “probable cause.”

In its clarification comment, LNP said Mr. Kowo was “mmediately released upon his arrival at the LNP Headquarters on Capitol Hill.”

A statement issued Monday, June 9, 2025, quoted the LNP as saying that the Inspector General (IG), Gregory Coleman, has meanwhile, directed the Professional Standards Division to review video evidence and other relevant details of the incident. He added: “A thorough inquiry into the use of force will be conducted, and upon completion, the findings will be made public.”

“While the LNP maintains that the arrest was based on “probable cause, Mr. Kowo was immediately released upon arrival at the LNP headquarters.”

However, the LNP acknowledges the public concerns regarding the apprehension of Kowo,” the LNP statement quoted IG Coleman as saying.

Meanwhile, the LNP has assured the public that it will continue to uphold law and order, as the institution reminds all citizens of their responsibility to abide and cooperate with law enforcement officials.

The LNP said the collective commitment of every citizen is essential in maintaining peace and ensuring public safety.
