The leadership of the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) over the weekend, commenced a fire prevention and awareness campaign in all the 15 counties.
FNFS Director-General, G. Warsuwah Barvoul, underscored the importance of the exercise, “because prevention is better than cure; it will help save lives.”
Barvoul made the statement when the LNFS toured several communities in and around Monrovia with the fire preventive campaign.
“Prevention is better than cure. Fighting fire before it turns disastrous is the best way to save lives, instead of letting the burning fire to do the damage.”
He said statistics in the possession of the LNFS indicates that the number one cause of some of the fire are the result of “poor house wiring.”
Barvoul blamed ignorance and the careless use of matches, candles and mosquitoes coil as contributing aspects that result to frequent fire disasters.
Meanwhile Barvoul has called on citizens to carry out “careful house wiring” using the ‘AWG’ wire # 10 or # 12.
“Whenever you want to put electricity in your homes, please contact a notable electrician, and or buy the AWG #10 or #12 wire,” Barvoul stated.
In a brief chat with reporters during the campaign, Barvoul said, the fire prevention and mass awareness campaigns aimed to three major fire safety measures, including, Before, During and After.”
During the exercise, LNFS staff distributed stickers with fired prevention messages; held one on one engagement with residents of the communities.
They presented the listed numbers for quick response: Station #1, 0770832681; Station#2, 0770832682; Station#3,0770832684 and Station #5, 0770832685.
Residents of the communities welcomed the LNFS, posed queries and promised to adhere to fire prevention and safety measures.
