The Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA) has warned President Joseph N. Boakai of a serious and potential catastrophe due to what they termed as the President alleged failure to take charge of the governance process of the country. Speaking in an exclusive interview with the In Profile Daily reporter, LNBA President, Cllr. Sylvester D. Rennie, said that what is currently happening between the Executive and the Judiciary Branches regarding budgetary allocation doesn’t only potential creates a bad blood but paralyzed government function. According to him, with how things are going under the administration of President Boakai, it demonstrating that the President is not on control of the governance of the country. “We want the President to take seizure of the governance of the country. The way the government is running as of the President doesn’t have control. The President must put his feet down. President Boakai served as Vice President to former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for twelve years and he saw how she had control of the governance despite having some challenges. With that, President Boakai needs to put his feet down, not so, the government will gradually collapse,” Cllr. Rennie warned. He also pointed out that what is happening between the Judiciary and the Executive may not only lead to jungle justice but loss of confidence in the governance system because there is no judicial system effectively working. Cllr. Rennie argued that with that, nobody will want to come to court because the government doesn’t respect its aims therefore; the President needs to do something urgent and take seizure of the governance of the state. “With the statement from the judiciary it speaks volume of smoke. The President again needs to put his feet down and take control of the government. We are seeing whole lot of lapse in the government. This couldn’t have come to the public if the President had control of the government,” he noted. He further indicated that the current disagreement between the Judiciary and Executive will lead to breakdown of the effective running of the government because if one sector of the government is not functioning fully, it means that the government is paralyzed. Cllr. Rennie described Rule of Law as a prominent pillar of the government ARREST Agenda, and urged that the government support the judiciary with the necessary budgetary allocation to ensure that they achieved what they promised the Liberian people. The Liberian legal luminary lamented recommended that it’s time that President Boakai starts negotiating with the Judiciary and take charge of the governance process of the country before it gets late. According to him, it’s so frustrating that the President will organized a meeting with the three branches of government with the judiciary stating it position with regards to the 2024 National Budget and no impact is made after the President intervention. He further pointed out that how does the President expect the government to prosecute high profile criminal cases that is to come to the court when the judiciary is not financially capacitated.
