The Vehicle and Traffic Regulatory Division of the Liberia National Police (LNP) has cautioned road users to abide by the vehicles and traffic laws of the Country. Speaking Thursday, October 10, 2024, at the conclusion of the re-launch of the highway patrol Police ceremony, in Grand Bassa County, the Deputy Inspector General of Police for Operation, Nelson Freeman warned drivers and passengers to obey the roads, vehicles and traffic laws to have a safe and conducive working environment for both the users and officers. He revealed that the vehicle and traffic law prohibit two persons from riding the front seat of a vehicle, adding that the highway patrol police will actively halt the acts along the highway to save lives and protect the citizenry. “We are not only here for traffic related issues, but there are also times where people kidnap children for their personal gains, once the police are informed, they are going to arrest the situation. The highway patrol is for the good of all Liberians, only a bad group of people will go against the patrol Police,” Freeman said. He at the same time mentioned that the highway patrol police should not use the opportunity to exploit or intimidate road users, stating that if caught in the act, they will be dealt with according to the law of the state. However, Officer Freeman told the public that the new team has been vetted and trained for enforcement, stressing that the focus of the highway patrol police is to detect crimes. According to him, over the years, the highway patrol was seen on the major highways but due to some reasons, the team was recalled. The Highway Patrol Section of the LNP began the sensitization and relaunch on September 24, 2024, with focus on four Counties: Margibi, Bong, Nimba, and Grand Bassa respectively. Meanwhile, the launch was attended by heads of various federations, student and civil society groups, religious leaders and county authorities. Source: LINA
