Early Wednesday morning, fire broke out in the generator room at the Liberia Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA) and two other entities.
The fire incident, according to investigation, caused temporary halt operations at the entity.
It also affected the Liberia National Lottery and the offices of the Pharmacy Board.
“Thanks to the rapid response of the Liberia National Fire Service for her quick prevention that contained the flames from causing severe damage to the main building and neighboring facilities, the entity said in a release said.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported as emergency teams managed to preserve the safety of all personnel involved.
Authorities from various agencies, including LMHRA, the Liberia National Lottery, the Pharmacy Board, LEC and the Fire Service, have launched a joint investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion and to evaluate existing safety protocols.
As repairs and safety assessments are ongoing, the affected generator room remains off-limits to all personnel.
LMHRA has directed staff to work remotely from home for the next two days while power restoration and safety checks are completed. Despite the setback, LMHRA reassures the public that essential services will continue with a reduced staff presence to ensure ongoing regulatory functions and public health oversight.
The public is meanwhile advised to remain vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines issued by the Liberia National Fire Service.
