At a recent press conference, prominent Liberian businessman, Anthony Cole, commended President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for his commitment to prosecuting corrupt government officials and fostering national development.
Cole highlighted the administration’s efforts to combat corruption as essential for the country’s progress and urged further action to ensure justice for all citizens.
Cole’s remarks have come at a time when Liberia is striving to improve its governance and development indicators, drawing comparisons to nations like Rwanda, which has made significant strides in economic growth and stability.
“We must look to successful models in the region and learn from them,” Cole stated, stressing the need for Liberia to adopt similar strategies to enhance its development trajectory.
The businessman specifically called on the Minister of Justice to intensify efforts in tackling crimes, particularly the rising incidents of robbery. “The issue of robbery has seen a decline, thanks to the national police and the commitment of the Justice Ministry,” he noted. Cole suggested implementing more robust anti-robbery initiatives to further reduce crime rates and enhance public safety.
He, however, also expressed concerns regarding property rights, urging the government to protect citizens from unlawful seizures and ensure that all property disputes are resolved through the judiciary. “We must instill confidence in our legal system. Citizens should not fear seeking justice,” he noted.
He criticized the culture of violence and intimidation surrounding property disputes, calling for a fair and transparent legal process.
The businessman reiterated his belief in the rule of law; stating, “Justice should not be for sale. It is a fundamental right that must be upheld for all Liberians.” He encouraged citizens to engage with law enforcement and the judicial system, noting that true justice cannot be achieved. “My fight for justice is for the collective good, not just for myself,” he explained.
Cole then urged all Liberians to embrace their democratic rights and responsibilities, advocating for a united front against corruption and injustice. “Together, we can build a better Liberia, where the rule of law prevails, and every citizen’s rights are respected,” he stated.
As the political landscape evolves in Liberia, Cole’s call for accountability and justice seems to resonate with many citizens who seek a brighter future for their country.
