Liberian Arrested For ‘Visa Fraud’

Northern Virginia-U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the arrest of Eric Sumo, a 51-year-old Liberian national.

The arrest of Sumo, according to a report, is part of a recent enforcement operation in the region.

Sumo, described as an “illegal alien” by authorities, is wanted in his home country (Liberia) for document fraud, “specifically for allegedly fraudulently possessing and manufacturing U.S. visas.”

The arrest took place on April 21, 2025, in Alexandria, Virginia, following a coordinated effort involving ICE, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Department of Justice Diplomatic Security Service.

Sumo is currently in ICE custody and faces removal (deportation) proceedings.

ICE officials emphasized their ongoing commitment to public safety, stating that operations targeting “criminal alien offenders” are a priority.

The agency, has meanwhile, urged members of the public to report suspicious activity through their tip line or online form.

Sumo’s case highlights the broader efforts by federal authorities to crack down on immigration-related crimes, including the production and use of fraudulent travel documents.
