Liberia has been officially designated to host the 2026 Annual General Assembly of Conference of Speakers and Presidents of the African Legislature (CoSPAL).
The decision was taken at CoSPA’s recently hosted General Debate and Session.
During the session, Richard Nagbe Koon, Speaker of the 55th House of Representative, formally accepted the request on behalf of the government.
Koon reaffirmed the country’s commitment to strengthen parliamentary cooperation, and democratic governance in all African countries.
The forthcoming gathering, which will be the 4th CoSPAL General Assembly, is scheduled to take place in August, 2026.
The event will bring together Speakers and Presidents of African legislatures to deliberate on issues of shared legislative interest, democratic consolidation, regional integration, and institutional collaboration.
Liberia’s selection as host reflects growing confidence in the country’s democratic institutions, and its active role in continental parliamentary affairs.
The government, through its Legislature, has pledged to work closely with CoSPAL, and relevant stakeholders to ensure a successful and impactful Assembly.
