“Capacity building through education is key to development,” Rep. Wuo

 Legislative Sojourn is a Column produced by the Inprofile Daily Newspaper on a weekly basis. The column seeks to highlight legislators from the fifteen counties and the seventy- districts on their profile, prospects, challenges and way forward; to enable the Liberian people get some insights on the lives and workings of those they entrusted with their votes to the manage the country.

Today’s edition focuses on the prospects, challenges, and way forward of River Gee District #2 Representative, Isaac B. Choloplay Wuo.

Rep. Wuo is serving his first term at the 55th Legislature. He’s the current chair of the House’s Committee on Labor.

The hallmark of Wuo’s leadership is capacity-building with key emphasis on women and youth in the district.

“Capacity building through education is key to development,” Rep. Wuo said, maintaining that the best way to develop a nation is to build the capacities of the citizens, especially the younger generation. According to him, if a nation is to be developed, the minds of the citizens must be positively transformed.

“I did not personally intend to become a representative, but the number of calls from my in the district got me into the race. The people knew I was the right person for the job, because of my initial contributions to the entire residents; thus, making sure that residents are empowered through formal education, vocational and technical trainings.

Mostly, we were advocating for job creation, among other things that will positively impact the lives of my people. By doing so, we will bring developments to the district and the county at-large,” Rep. Wuo.

He then boasted that building the capacity of the young people is one of his strengths, which he said, has also been instrumental in bringing him to the spotlight; making the people to trust him with the leadership of River Gee County District #2.

“Before becoming a lawmaker, I have over time been engaged in the training of over 85 percent of the young people, who acquired driving skills. I brought those schemes to the residents through my company called “IB Show,” which is at present, operating in the county.

The IB Show is providing other vocational skills by training the youths into several other trades, most of whom are motorcyclists.

 We want those cyclists to focus on different trades so as to face future challenges with confidence.

In the area of education, Rep. Wuo said, if River Gee county will be able to get its fair share of the national envelope; citizens there must be fully educated. It is upon this backdrop that his office is currently working along with both schools administrations and the parents to warrant the youthful generation gets the best education they deserved.

He added: “It was one of the campaigns promises I made to the people, and it must be fulfilled.”

“I’m currently paying students school fees for all levels in both private and public schools. With this initiative on going, it has encouraged the school going ages to enroll; increase their interests to acquire formal education, which has again, put River Gee on par with other counties when it comes to national test results.” he said.

Wuo’s other form of capacity-building, is agriculture. With this, I’m into agricultural activities that is another source of income to build the capacity of my people”

On the health sector of his district, Rep. Wuo said, the issue of heath is a serious challenge, naming the lacked of electricity, mobility, among others that are impeding the health sector.

He’s currently working along with the county Legislative Caucus to engage national government to make the only referral hospital in the county become fully functional for the locals to access best healthcare they so desired.

On the issue of security, Rep. Wuo said, it is also challenging, explaining that insufficient manpower presence across the district, and the entire county, is alarming. “It is also hampering the functions of central government, thereby putting the lives of the citizens at risk with the marauding criminals.

Meanwhile, Rep. Wuo has called on the heads of security apparatuses to increase the number of personnel assigned in the district.

Moreover, he has commended his kinsmen for the opportunity giving him to serve at the national level. Wuo promised to continue working in the best interest of the people for the betterment of the county.
