Legislative Sojourn is a Column produced by the Inprofile Daily newspaper on a weekly basis, which accordingly, seeks to highlight legislators from the fifteen counties and the seventy- three districts on their profiles, prospects, challenges and way forward as to enable the Liberian people get some insights on the lives and workings of those they trusted to manage the country on their behalf.

This week’s edition features Montserrado County District #3 Lawmaker, Sumo K. Mulbah, who is serving his first term at the 55th Legislature. He outlined prospects and challenges confronting his district. Mulbah says he’s working on how to find a way forward for more development programs before his tenure expires.

He added: “The true spirit of selflessness, courage and commitment are the driving force behind my leadership.”

As the democratically elected representative of Electoral District #3, Montserrado County, and in pursuit to adequately respond to the aspiration of the residents, Rep. Mulbah said the driving force behind his leadership are the true spirit of selflessness, courage and commitment to working for the people of his district, yea the country.

In this like, in consultation with residents of the district for six-year, Mulbah has developed strategic agenda on the theme: ‘’RESET,’’ an acronym of Reunification, Economic empowerment, Security, Education and the True infrastructure.

This agenda, Mulbah said, is primarily embedded with promises he made during the campaign period which included accountability, decentralization of district leadership and the provision of basic social services in the areas of education, health, road connectivity, markets building, street beautification and safe drinking water.

Some of the projects are currently ongoing in the district, while some have been completed to the delight of residents.

Considering the RESET, its goal matches the people’s desires for development, precisely with immediate interventions, while the developmental aspect looks at gradual engrossments made on infrastructure. Those projects are roads rehabilitation, construction of markets, educational facilities throughout the district.

Residents of Montserrado County District #3, overwhelmingly elected Mr. Mulbah, who promised to decentralize the district leadership and provides social services as parts of his RESET agenda.

 The agenda seeks to bring new dynamism through developments, including human resources.

During the 2023 election, Mulbah campaigned on the platform of accountability and transparency. He subsequently declared his assets to the LACC, thus encouraging local leaders to portray same, ensuring that the district gets its just development programs.

He has also set a fully functional and operational offices to interact with residents and also bring together those from all other districts to discuss developmental issues confronting their wellbeing.

 The lawmaker highlighted healthcare and infrastructure as projects he desires for immediate interventions, while the provision of safe drinking water, cleaning of drainages, streets and the entire communities across the district would subsequently follow.

Mulbah’s vision is to uphold the country’s Constitution as well as faithfully discharge the duties and responsibilities assigned to him through developments, while empowering residents to become self-reliance in their respective development drives.

 For the record, Rep. Mulbah is the only Lawmaker in the history of electoral #3, who proffered the War and Economic Crimes Court Bill, calling for the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia. His courage was approved by members of the Legislature and the Executive respectively.

As component of Rep. Mulbah’s responsibilities including lawmaking, oversight and representation, he boasted of progress made so far since his election in less than two years.

Mulbah’s support to education has graduated over 400 people (women and men) from the district’s TVET Program, providing scholarships for over 165 students at all levels.

He spoke of the major community road rehabilitation, among them are the Cocoa Factory Road, West Benn Road, Catholic Road, Lomah Road, the construction of modern market at Booker’s Hill community and so on. 

In terms of security, he also provided over 120 Solar Lights across major street across the district, supporting LNP Initiatives. On the issue of infrastructure development, Rep. Mulbah bragged about Pipeline Round About, Technical College First Floor and basement completion as well as other contributions that included the distribution of eight cars washing machines to car washing centers in his district; purchased 105 wheelbarrows, 105 cutlasses, 105 rain boots and diggers, painting the streets, support to 13 Community-Based Organizations in Combating Drugs and the distribution of over 500 helmets and 500 reflective jackets too motorcyclists.

As for the sanitation, Mulbah had purchased two tricycles, 56 drums for dirt collection, supported the treatment of 21 wounded drugs addicted individuals and the cleaning of drainages across the district.

Challenges:

He talked about the progress made so far, though some of the challenges have hindered the speed of the RESET Agenda.

In spite of the challenges, Rep. Mulbah is of the hope that he would forge for more development programs for the district in the years ahead.
