LDEA Strengthens Ties With India

In the wake of massive crackdown to illicit drug peddlers, the Director General of Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Anthony K. Souh, on Wednesday, June 5, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Indian Embassy in Monrovia.

Mr. Souh’s visit, accordingly, enhances a collaboration between Liberia and India.

The significant diplomatic move aims to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking and other related crimes.

During a warm and constructive meeting with Ambassador Manoj Bihari Verma, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen bilateral ties, focusing on capacity building for LDEA officers.

Amb. Verma, reiterated his country’s continued support through technical and economic cooperation initiatives (ITEC), which offer vital training opportunities for LDEA personnel.

“We believe that empowering your officers through knowledge and skills will directly support the country’s efforts to combat drug crimes more effectively, the Ambassador assured.

In response, Mr. Souh, whose robust fight in recent time has given the agency a muscle, expressed gratitude to the People’s Republic of India for its timely and strategic support.

“The LDEA is at a pivotal point where enhanced training is necessary for essential for impactful service delivery,” Mr. Souh remarked, adding: “We are confident that this partnership will lead to greater operational efficiency and a safer Liberia for all.”

In a related development, the agency has arrested a suspect with 22.7KG of marijuana.

 Emmanuel Krangar, a 55-year-old Liberian national and resident of Corn Farm Community in Bong County, was apprehended at the Gbarnga Iron Gate by joint security. Krangar was on his way from Palala Town, in Bong County, en-route to Grand Bassa County when he was found in possession of the 22.7 Kgs of marijuana. The estimated street value of the seized substance is approximately US$2,270 or L$431,300.

Krangar was immediately turned over to the Bong County Detachment Investigation Section for a preliminary probe. He remains in custody pending court trial.

Also, in Grand Cape Mount, the officers arrested one person who was in possession of marijuana and tramadol.

The LDEA apprehended suspect James Kpingbah, an 18-year-old Liberian national and resident of Tienii Township during a targeted ghetto raid.

The suspect was arrested in possession of 108 wraps of marijuana and three pills of Tramadol.

Following his arrest, suspect Kpingbah was investigated, formally charged, and has been forwarded to the Tienii Magisterial Court for trial in accordance with the law.
