LDEA On Drug, Alcohol Policies

Authorities at the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), have called on government to review drugs and alcohol policies.

LDEA Officer-In-Charge, Fitzgerald T.M. Biago, made the call when appeared at the Ministry of Information regular Press briefing on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

Biago recalled the Ministry of Health recent ban on the smoking of shisha and the unauthorized sale of tramadol.

He said for the procedure to hold, there should be a strategic framework that would execute those policies.

Biago said the LDEA is working closely with the ministries of Health, Internal Affairs, Youth and Sports to revise alcohol and drugs policies, and also develop a framework that will make the Agency carry out a systematic operation.

He highlighted several priorities aimed to create a robust and accountable and resourceful organization.
Biago: “The Agency is structuring, and also reforming to address integrity and credibility.”

“We are also working on the coding and well communication system to address the issue of officers regalia, because some of them are wearing T-shirts to go on operations,”

Mr. Biago.
