The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Grand Kru County Detachment has made two significant arrests in its ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug trafficking and firearms possession. During last weekend, LDEA officers apprehended a Nigerian national with heroin and precursor, and a Liberian citizen caught with compressed marijuana and illegal firearms. On Thursday, February 20, 2025, LDEA officers patrolling Plain view in JlodehTrenbo District intercepted Ama Eze, a 41-year-old Nigerian national, who was attempting to transport illegal drugs to Pleebo, Maryland County. A search of Eze revealed:
– 13 tubes of heroin, weighing 142.6 grams
– 3 plastic bags of precursor, weighing 97.8 grams
The estimated street value of the drugs is USD $3,573 (or LRD $678,870). Eze was arrested and formally charged with violating Sections 14.85 and 14.89 of the 2023 Amended Drug Law, which prohibits the illegal possession, sale, trade, and distribution of controlled substances. He was subsequently sent to the Barclayville Magisterial Court. In a separate operation on Saturday, February 22, 2025, LDEA officers, acting on a search and seizure warrant, raided the residence of Anthony Gray, a 56-year-old Liberian citizen in Parluken, Forpoh District. During the raid, officers discovered:
– 4½ plates of compressed marijuana, weighing 3 kilograms
– 3 long-range single-barrel guns and 7 cartridges, concealed in a bag
The estimated value of the marijuana is USD $317 (or LRD $60,230). Gray has been charged and forwarded to the Barclayville Magisterial Court under the same 2023 Amended Drug Law.
The LDEA said it is committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks and preventing the illegal trade of substances and firearms. These recent arrests are a strong reminder to drug traffickers and criminals operating within Liberia that law enforcement will continue to take swift action against illegal activities.
