Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah, has announced that the newly constructed Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) radio and television complex, will be formally turned over to the management of the state broadcaster.

The ceremony is expected to mark a milestone in public broadcasting development.

Piah made the disclosure on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the Ministry regular press briefing.

He disclosed that the director general of LBS will initially receive the keys to the facility, and present them to the board of directors, which he chairs, before the complex is officially handed over to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.

Mr. Piah further revealed that, following consultations with the LBS Board and senior management, Pres. Boakai has approved the naming of the new facility as the Charles Gbayon Baeum Radio and Television Complex.

According to the minister, the decision reflects the enduring legacy of Charles Gbayon Baeum, and his significant contributions to public communication, journalism and national service.

He noted that while the main conference room at LBS already bears the late minister’s name, dedicating the entire broadcast complex in his memory is considered a more fitting tribute, given the historical importance of the site.

Piah also confirmed that arrangements for the official dedication ceremony are underway.

He added: “The date will be announced once it is jointly agreed upon by the LBS Board of Directors, management and the office of the President.”

The completion of the new radio and television complex is expected to significantly strengthen public broadcasting capacity, and improve the dissemination of accurate and timely information nationwide.
