Koon Receives Validated MRU Parliament Protocols

House Speaker, Richard Nagbe Koon, has received the validated Mano River Union (MRU) parliament protocols from his colleagues.

The House of Representatives Technical Working Group, on Monday, October 6, 2025, formally presented the validated declaration, and protocols to Mr. Koon.

Koon will then submit the document to Plenary upon the resumption of the 3rd Quarter Session.

The group was established to validate the preliminary draft protocol for the establishment of the MRU Parliament.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair, Nehker Gaye, and Women’s Legislative Caucus Chair, Ellen A. Attoh-Wreh, presented the documents on behalf of the Technical Working Group.

They explained that the validation process followed a series of consultative meetings held in Abidjan, La Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, and Sierra Leone, in collaboration with their counterparts from the MRU member states.

The Group said the establishment of the MRU Parliamentary body will significantly strengthen sub-regional cooperation, promote legislative harmonization, and enhance collective efforts in addressing challenges within the MRU basin.

Meanwhile, Mr. Koon has commended the Group for its dedication, and hard work throughout the validation process.

He then turned over the documents to the Chief Clerk for official submission to Plenary for debate and possible passage.

The move marks an important step toward country’s active participation in the creation of a sub-regional parliamentary body that seeks to foster closer political, economic, and social collaboration among MRU member states.
