Koon Commends Progress In Liberian Football

House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon, has commended the leadership of the Liberian Football Association (LFA) for progress made so far in the sporting community.

Koon gave the commendation on Tuesday, September 30,2025, at the official dedication of the newly constructed mini-stadium in Ganta, Nimba County.

The event marked a significant milestone in Liberia’s ongoing efforts to revitalize grassroots football, and invest in youth development.

The ceremony brought together government officials and the locals, predominately sport lovers.

Mr. Koon extended heartfelt gratitude to LFA President Mustapha Raji, praised his visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment to the growth of country’s football.

“You are a gift to Liberian football,” Koon said. “Your vision and leadership are the driving force behind the tangible progress we celebrate today.”

The new mini-stadium, built at FIFA’s standards and supported by the FIFA Forward Program, is more than just a sporting facility; it symbolizes opportunity, hope, and the future of football in the country. Since the groundbreaking ceremony in November last year, the facility has rapidly become a beacon for sports development in the region.

Mr. Koon also lauded the efforts of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Cole Bangalu, for ensuring that the stadium is equipped with modern infrastructure, including high-quality floodlights enabling safe evening play; a state-of-the-art underground sprinkler system for pitch maintenance; reinforced internal fencing for safety, and covered spectator stands for fan comfort and accessibility.

“The facility will not only host major LFA competitions, but serves as a hub for grassroots tournaments, providing a platform for young talents.”

Speaker Koon also highlighted the Ministry dedication of two additional FIFA-funded mini-pitches earlier in the day at Bible Way Mission, and the EBK Barracks in Margibi County.

These facilities, he said, are vital in promoting inclusive, accessible football for boys and girls in their own communities.

“These mini-pitches represent continuous play, skill refinement and community,” Koon told the gathering.

He meanwhile, expressed deep appreciation to all partners, including FIFA, the LFA, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, for their collective dedication to reshape the future of Liberian football.
