Kogar-Koung ‘Fight’ Deepens

…Nimba Elders ‘Emergency Meeting’ Fiasco

“The conduct of the meeting was not easy, too much tensions with Kogar in long speech, thereby refusing to go and see VP Koung at his residence, citing security concern.”

Ambassador Wilfred Boayou’s residence in Congo Town, outside Monrovia, was a scene of drama on Wednesday, September 4, 2025, when divided opinions denigrated the conduct of what started as a ‘peaceful meeting’ among elders of the county.

The ‘emergency meeting,’ which commenced with the usual Nimba Kwado slogan and sham: “Yaa Go Nimba, Yaa Cea!!” quickly turned into near- debacle or fiasco when some elders started mummering while Senator Samuel G. Kogar, took to the stage and ‘talked so long’ to the annoyance of those in attendance.

Thereafter, according to those acquainted with the brouhaha, Sen. Kogar later apologized to the elders when he presented US$10 to them as a token of his apology.

Considering the lesser value of the amount, two prominent seniors, added US$20 each, increasing the value to US$50 to cool-off elders’ upsets.

Sources reported: “The conduct of the meeting was not easy, too much tensions with Kogar in long speech, thereby refusing to go and see Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung at his residence on the ELWA/RIA highway.”

“In fact, he told the elders that his security was not guaranteed at the home of the VP, while the VP too could not breach security protocol to come to the home of the Boayou’s, located in the outskirt of
Congo Town.”

An insider added: “This was one aspect that reportedly brought the meeting to fiasco, thereby annulling any tangibles.”

On the one hand, political observers have warned the VP to also be careful with Sen. Kogar, a rang leaders, who bethronged Jonathan Fonati Koffa as speaker of the 55th Legislators.

Others believe that Kogar would be undermining his own leadership by standing to all those in authority that would help him develop the county.

The Traditional and Cultural Affairs Council of Nimba, is headed by Moses Vah. the Vah leadership reportedly sent a 21-member team (Elders) to Monrovia to solve the alleged growing disagreements between the Vice President and the Senator.

The efforts became necessary following Kogar’s public accusation of the VP of leaving him out of “important decisions, and activities related to the county.”

While on an online platform recently, Sen. Kogar said, he feels ignored and disrespected by VP Koung’s leadership, which he claimed was treating him as his ‘bagboy.’

Since he made the comments, there have been mixed reactions among Nimbaians.

Some in support of the senator, while others are standing by the Vice President. So far, Vice Pres. Koung has not officially responded to the Kogar accusations.

Meanwhile, another group of traditional leaders, led by Melvin Gbelia Duo, said their goal was to handle the matter ‘quietly and peacefully,’ without involving the media.

According to one senior from the county: “With the look of things, the cat is already out of the bag giving rise to social media comments and posts.”

They elder had planned to stay in Monrovia until the county Superintendent Kou Meapeh Gono, was summoned to answer to Sen. Kogar’s called for audit of the county social development fund.
