Despite standing trial on arson charge at Criminal ‘A’ in Monrovia, Grand Kru County Electoral District #2 Representative, Jonathan Fonati Koffa, has expressed concerns regarding Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL) operation in the county.

GVL an Oil palm plantation company, has reportedly failed to address tuition payment for students participating in its scholarship program.

Rep. Koffa highlighted the detrimental effects the tuition payment delays have had on the students currently enrolled at universities across the country.

Koffa, a lawyer by profession, said his move to address the situation stemmed from the reported failure of the company to make the necessary payments to benefit the students.

“My office has received numerous complaints from students and their leaders over GVL’s failure to meet its scholarship commitments,” Koffa said.

He expressed relief at GVL’s commitment, noting that the critical nature of timely compliance with corporate social responsibility obligations, especially those that influenced the education and future prospects of the youth in the county.

Koffa meanwhile, cautioned GVL against engaging the citizens of District #2 in conversations regarding any potential extension of the company concession in Nehroh, Jloh Statutory District, without prior consultation with his office.

He said, such actions could undermine the authority of the duly elected district representative, and called for proper and transparent engagement moving forward.

GVL Management assured Rep. Koffa that they are actively working to reconcile the scholarship listing, which includes 53 students as submitted by the chairman of the county legislative caucus.

The company confirmed that by Tuesday, September 16, 2025, all respective universities would receive official communication verifying the scholarship payments, thereby enabling students to continue their studies without further hindrance.

The meeting, which was held Friday, September 10, 2025, brought together management of GVL and the staff from the county lawmaker’s office.
