Madam Garmai Koboi, Executive Director of the Liberia Intellectual Property Office (LIPO), has rallied for collaboration between her office, and the media in advancing intellectual property initiatives.
Henceforth, Madam Koboi has called on Liberian journalists to verify or fact-check information for public consumption.
During a recent interaction with Journalists when she received an “Outstanding Director General of the Year Award for 2025,” Madam Koboi highlighted the teamwork essential for achieving the office’s objectives. The Award was presented to her by a group under the banner: Excellent Media Incorporated.
“This is not just a personal achievement, but a collective effort. My team and I are dedicated to serve our great people. We appreciate the media for following our work, and promoting our initiatives.” Madam Koboi said, the visibility of the Intellectual Property Office largely depends on media engagement and support, urging journalists to provide feedback on the office’s programs to enhance their effectiveness. “The media,” she said, “is a vital part of our mission. Without your connection to our office, our efforts may go unnoticed, and the public would remain unaware of the important work we are doing.” Madam Koboi then encouraged media professionals to actively participate in workshops and initiatives organized by LIPO.
She noted that their involvement could significantly amplify the impact of intellectual property education. Madam Koboi also called for accuracy and diligence in reporting, urging journalists to fact-check their information before dissemination. “When you share information, it should be credible and reliable. The public relies on you to provide truthful content. Misinformation can have serious implications; therefore, we must strive for quality in our communications.”
As the event folded, Madam Koboi reiterated her appreciation for the role media play by promoting intellectual property rights, and fostering a culture of creativity and innovation. She added: “Together, we can achieve more for our country. I look forward to our continued collaboration.”
With a commitment to enhance the relationship between LIPO and the media, Madam Koboi’s leadership is poised to strengthen the intellectual property landscape, fostering a supportive environment for creators and innovators.
