The launch, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, is to promote and or strengthen national unity and foster open dialogue.
Nyanti launched the groundbreaking of the “Kana Kulono” a Kpelle phrase meaning: “Come, Let’s Talk initiative.”
The initiative aims at bridging social divides and encour ages constructive conversations between the government and its citizens.
The official launch took place on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex, drawing a diverse crowd of government officials, traditional leaders, student groups, civil society organizations, media professionals and diplomats.
In her keynote address, Madam Nyanti underscored the need for unity, transparency, and positive national discourse, adding: “Liberia belongs to all Liberians, regardless of status. Therefore, we should always speak positively about our country.”
The ‘Kana Kulono’ is a platform for every Liberian to share their views, constructively engage their leaders, and contribute meaningfully to national conversation.”
Madam Nyanti said, while disagreements are natural in a democratic society, the focus must remain on building a better, more inclusive and prosperous Liberia.
She called on the citizens to see the initiative as an opportunity to strengthen the bonds of nationhood.
The event also featured remarks from Finance Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, who spoke on “transforming budgets and policies for equitable progress.”
Ngafuan emphasized the critical role of citizens’ feedback in shaping national spending priorities.
Additionally, LRA Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah, addressed the gathering on “revenue mobilization and fair taxation.”
Jallah too stressed the importance of grassroots support and small business growth in driving economic recovery.
Notable participants were representatives from the diplomatic community, among them, the Chinese Ambassador, European Union Representative, and Swedish Ambassador.
They reflected the broad international support for the initiative.
The “Kana Kulono” initiative is set to play a critical role in fostering a shared sense of national identity and collective responsibility, reinforcing the idea that the nation’s future lies in the hands of its people.
