Jorquelleh Youths Term Commissioner Karchue’s Conducted Election Illegal

By: Samuel Flomo, Jr.

District Commissioner David C. Karchue is facing serious backlash and growing public humiliation after youths of Jorquelleh District Two overwhelmingly rejected and boycotted a controversial youth election many described as illegal, unconstitutional, and politically- motivated. The planned election, scheduled for Wednesday, May 27, 2026, collapsed after scores of young people refused to participate, accusing the commissioner of attempting to impose leadership on the district through what critics labeled a “forced and unlawful process.”

The boycott has now exposed deep anger and frustration among the district’s youths, many of whom believe Commissioner Karchue deliberately ignored the constitution governing the youth body in order to control the outcome of the election.

Several youth leaders accused the commissioner of abusing his authority by interfering in an independent youth process that should have been guided by constitutional procedures and broad consultation among stakeholders. “This was never a democratic election,” one youth representative declared angrily. “Commissioner Karchue wanted to use government power to force his own agenda on the district. The youths refused to be intimidated.”

The commissioner had justified the election by arguing that the tenure of outgoing Youth President Flomo B. Getalah had expired.  However, many youths insisted that the expiration of tenure does not give any government official the right to violate constitutional procedures or manipulate the democratic process. Critics further accused Commissioner Karchue of creating confusion, division, and tension in the district through what they described as reckless political interference. Observers said the massive boycott represents one of the strongest public rejections of the commissioner’s leadership in recent times and signals growing dissatisfaction with his handling of district affairs.

Some residents also questioned why Commissioner Karchue allegedly failed to engage community leaders, youth stakeholders, and outgoing officials before rushing into such a controversial election process. Meanwhile, the outgoing youth leadership was poised to convene a major meeting shortly to discuss the way forward toward conducting what many are demanding to be a transparent, inclusive, and constitutional election process free from political manipulation and abuse of authority.

As public criticism intensifies, Commissioner Karchue now seems to  find himself at the center of a deepening political embarrassment that continues to spark debate across Jorquelleh District Two.
