The government has officially launched the Food Safety Coordination Committee.
The event was hosted at the Ministry of Health on Wednesday.
Led by Malayah Tamba Chieyoe, Deputy Health Minister for Planning and Policy, the initiative underscores government’s commitment to public governance and food safety.
“This initiative is a clear demonstration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s vision and instructions, which we gather to bring to life.”
Chieyoe highlighted dangers posed by unsafe food. He said, collaboration among various ministries marks a turning point in strengthening compliance and reducing duplication in food safety inspections.
He expressed gratitude to development partners whose support has been crucial in making the initiative a reality.
“The health and well-being of our citizens are paramount, and today marks a significant milestone for our country.”
Precellia Cherue, Director General of the Food and Agriculture Laboratory (FAL), reiterated the commitment to lead the initiative with transparency and integrity.
MacDella M. Cooper, Political Advisor to the President launched the initiative.
Madam Cooper highlighted President Boakai’s determination to ensure the safety of all citizens through stringent food safety measures.
The task force, as outlined by Morris Gono, Executive Director of the National Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Commission (NWASHC), will consist of six teams in Montserrado, each comprising eight members from various ministries.
Gono also announced that three vehicles and 15 motorbikes have been allocated to facilitate the smooth operation of the task force, which will utilize a comprehensive checklist for inspecting entertainment centers, restaurants, and more.
The launch of this initiative symbolizes a united front in the fight for food safety in paving the way for a healthier and safer future for all.
