The Director of Jesus Ministry Church Global, Dr. Sharilyn M. Garrett, on Monday, January 26, concluded a four-day Phase One health assessment tour in Margibi, Bong, Nimba and Grand Bassa counties.
Along with Dr. Garrett were Pastor Roland Chester, Lead Pastor for Africa and Asia, head of Liberia Chapter with their delegation.
The tour, which forms part of Dr. Garrett’s mission to Liberia, aims to assess hospitals or health facilities, both private and government, with adequate space, qualified medical professionals, and strategic locations to address common illnesses requiring surgical intervention.
The findings will guide the Ministry’s Board of Directors in deciding on the establishment of a medical outreach camp planned for 2027, pending approval.
During the tour, Dr. Garrett and her team visited government-owned C.H. Rennie Hospital in Kakata, Margibi County and Grand Bassa Government Hospital, a major referral hospital serving Margibi, Bong, and Gbarpolu counties.
The Buchanan Government Hospital serves River Cess and River Gee counties.
Other facilities visited, included Nyanpu-Ta Medico Surgical Clinic in Gbarnga, Bong County, the Gbarnga Community Health Center, United Methodist Hospital in Ganta, Nimba County, and the Esther and Jeremiah Koung (E and J) Medical Center in Ganta.
In addition to health facilities, the delegation paid courtesy visits to churches under the Jesus Ministry Church Global umbrella.
These included Christ Holy Deliverance Ministry in Gbarnga, Great Pentecostal Movement International Ministries in Nimba County, and Heart of Christ Evangelical Ministry in Grand Bassa County, where they met with county coordinators, district leaders, and other church groups.
As part of the assessment, Dr. Garrett held discussions and interviews with several medical professionals, including Dr. Wilmot G. Frank, Jr., an Obstetrician/Gynecologist at C.H. Rennie Hospital; Dr. Dimingo Gomez, Consultant Surgeon at Nyanpu-Ta Medico Surgical Clinic; Dr. Jefferson Sibley and Dr. Philip M. Larblah, a family physician at the Gbarnga Community Health Center.
Others are Dr. Karwulo S. Gbargein, Medical Director of the E and J Medical Center, Dr. Charlie M. Kimpeas, Surgeon, Dr. Harford M. Howard, CMO at the United Methodist Hospital in Ganta, and Dr. Yola Camanor, Medical Director at the Buchanan Government Hospital.
At the climax of Phase One in Buchanan Grand Bassa County on Monday, January 26, Dr. Garrett said, the visit was intended to obtain first-hand information regarding the medical interventions expected in Liberia.
“I am pleased with what she saw, and heard through interviews with several doctors, who we visited.”
Dr. Garrett believes that Liberia still needs medical intervention based on what she saw, encouraging Liberians to observe their individual diet.
Garrett has meanwhile, encouraged Liberians to put God first, and always have a balanced diet.
”I observed that most people in Africa don’t observe what they eat, which is creating more health problems for them.”
Pastor Roland Chester, Lead Pastor of Jesus Ministry Church Global Africa/Asia and Liberia Chapter, commended the Ministry, and Dr. Garrett for the opportunity to serve, and by bringing medical relief to the people of Liberia and Africa.
Pastor Chester, however, described the initiative as a blessing for Liberia.
He urged citizens to take full advantage of the opportunity once approved by the Board.
He also called on Liberians and Africa to always seek the face of God in everything they do.
According to him, the primary concern of the Ministry is to save souls through Jesus Christ, followed by medical services.
Several doctors, who interacted with the delegation expressed excitement about the initiative, outlining several challenges facing Liberia’s health sector, including the lack of medical equipment and capacity building.
They said the medical camp, when set up, will be a major boost to country’s struggling health sector, helping those with serious medical complications.
They said the proposed medical outreach camp could bring significant relief, particularly to underprivileged citizens, who cannot afford surgical procedures and other medical services.
Meanwhile, the President of the Bong County Christian Association, Reverend Obadiah Camuel, and the Christian Community in Grand Bassa, in a separate program, honored Dr. Garrett for her contribution to humanity.
On behalf of the association and the wider Christian community, Rev. Camuel conferred on Dr. Garrett a traditional or native Kpelleh name: “Sianneh,” meaning Successful Trip, in recognition of her longstanding work in Africa and other parts of the world.
“We are indeed grateful to have you here in Liberia. It is a privilege and a blessing. We will stand with you, by you, and fully support this process,” Rev. Camuel assured
Dr. Garrett.
Phase Two of the assessment tour is scheduled on Tuesday in Tubmanburg, Bomi County, covering Gbarpolu and Cape Mount counties.
